Giants Netball win knocks rival from lead

THE Giants have ended a three-game losing sequence and knocked local rivals NSW Swifts off the top of the ladder with a convincing 57-41 home win over the Adelaide Thunderbirds in their Suncorp Super Netball clash on Sunday.
It was the Giants’ biggest winning margin of the season and the Thunderbirds’ largest loss.
Adelaide’s final score was the lowest by any team this year.
The victory put the Giants on top on percentage points ahead of the Swifts, but the Lightning and the West Coast Fever could go ahead of both NSW clubs if they each win their game in hand this week.
Coming off consecutive losses to the other three teams in the top four, the Giants had far less trouble against Thunderbirds, who were disappointing after registering back-to-back wins.
Jo Harten scored 28 points and Sophie Dwyer 25 for the Giants, who shot at 76 per cent for the game.

The Giants next take on the Firebirds on Saturday, July 3, from 7pm at Nissan Arena, Brisbane.
The NSW Swifts have also returned to winning ways, dominating their long-time rivals the Queensland Firebirds 64-52 on Friday.
Having fallen to a shock loss away to the Thunderbirds last week, the Swifts were far more direct and purposeful in this latest match, valuing possession and making the most of the turnovers that came their way.
While the Firebirds did look threatening on attack it was the home side who were winning the 50-50 balls and the scrap for loose possession.
Sam Wallace moved well in the circle and Helen Housby also gave the Swifts mid-court good feeding options with her lines of running.
Sydney Swifts will next play Fever on Saturday, July 3, from 3pm at Ken Rosewall Arena, Sydney.
