Giants men toppled but a good chance for women to reach top

A SEVEN-POINT win against Geelong on Saturday has kept alive the Giants’ hopes of making this year’s AFLW although it remains an outside chance at best.

All eyes will be on Sunday’s clash between North Melbourne and Fremantle with a win locking the Kangaroos into the last finals spot however if both they and the Western Bulldogs suffer big losses, a near record win over Carlton by the Giants could put into the finals instead.
There was no such luck in the opening AFL round for the Giants’ men’s team who, despite putting in a gutsy performance in extremely slippery conditions at home at Giants Stadium, went down by eight-points to an undermanned St Kilda side.
