Jesse Hogan, who had several strong moments in the air for the Giants, kicked a late goal that cut the half-time margin to 30 points, but it was all ahead of the Giants if they were going to mount a comeback.
The result looked done early in the third when the Eagles launched a terrific set shot from 55m but the Giants went on to produce their best period for the game.
Getting some run back into their game, they made the Eagles look tired as they booted three of the last four goals of the term to bring the margin back to 30.
The final term was an arm wrestle, with no goals kicked for the first 15 minutes as West Coast fought to defend its advantage and the Giants battled desperately for a breakthrough but it was not to be and the Eagles sealed the deal.
The Giants’ loss was compounded by a shoulder injury to luckless Jacob Wehr, who was crunched in the second quarter and subbed out of the contest.
Best Giants players: Stephen Coniglio, Toby Greene, Hogan and Tom Green.
The Giants next take on Carlton this Saturday from 4.35pm at Giants Stadium.
