Lets children choose charities to donate cash prize

A GET Fit challenge at Fitness Local in Panania and Padstow, has seen local businessman and Picnic Point Public P & C member Steve Hancock not only win the challenge but lose 12 per cent body fat.

Thrilled with his efforts, Steve decided to donate the $2,500 prize money to the RSPCA and The Smith Family to help others rise above their own battles.

Steve is a master at this after surviving the removal of three spinal tumours.

“I’ve also had two broken wrists and now have permanent screws in them,” Steve explained.

“My most recent surgery was a right shoulder reconstruction in July last year. I was not allowed to lift anything greater than 2kg and was my heaviest last summer at 82kg.

“When I started at the gym as part of my rehab, the six-week challenge was being talked about. So I entered as a way to get me down to a healthy weight; I was never doing it for the prize money.

Steve said he got his children engaged by telling them to pick a charity each to donate the money if he won.

“My son Jarrod loves nature and animals so he picked the RSPCA and my daughter Zoe is always keen to help people when she can so she chose The Smith Family.”

Fitness Local Gym Manager Daniel Gauci said: “During the challenge, all members receive personal or small group training, dietary plans, online support, weekly boot camp and access to classes.

“We are lucky that we have an experienced team of trainers that offer everything from functional intense training to reformer pilates. We are a small, non intimidating, community based, health club and we really pride ourselves on getting positive results.”
