Canterbury Bankstown Council will be hosting the clean-out from 9.30am-3.30pm at the council’s Campsie Customer Service Centre car park (pictured) in Shakespeare Street, Campsie.
Items that will be accepted include household and pool chemicals, old paint tins, car batteries, gas cylinders, motor oils and more.
Any other harmful products with toxic, corrosive, flammable or oxidising agent labels, will also be accepted.
With three garbage trucks catching fire from incorrect bin use this year alone, Mayor Bilal El-Hayek is urging residents to recycle right and to safely dispose of chemicals.
“What you put in your bins can really affect the safety of our community and our drivers,” he said.
“Recent incidents with our garbage trucks catching fire remind us of how important it is to keep harmful chemicals and batteries out of our bins.
“Our Chemical CleanOut Day is a great way to get rid of those harmful products while also keeping our community safe.”
Residents are encouraged to take caution when transporting household chemicals and should not mix them or remove them from their original packaging. Chemicals should be wrapped in paper before being placed in a container.
