In May this year, investigators attached to the Professional Standards Command commenced an investigation into allegations that child abuse material was allegedly being stored and distributed on an electronic device.
During the course of the investigation, items including a mobile phone were seized and forensically examined.
Following further inquiries, a 62-year-old man was arrested at Five Dock yesterday (Wednesday, June 2) and charged with use carriage service for child abuse material and possess child abuse material.
He was granted conditional bail to reappear next month.
Shortly after, a search warrant was executed at Georges Hall where police located and seized electronic storage devices.
A 49-year-old man, who is a sergeant attached to a specialist command, was arrested at the location and charged with possess child abuse material and granted conditional bail.
The officer remains suspended with pay.

A POLICE officer from Georges Hall was one of two people charged following an investigation into the alleged possession and distribution of child abuse material.
