Being only eight-years-old, it is too far for him to ride there or catch a train and so he is urging the council to establish a dedicated track in the local area.
“Some of my friends and I have built tracks with dirt jumps and trails that were later destroyed,” he said.
“They were so much fun for us after being stuck at home for 16 weeks inside and not seeing our friends and family during the Covid-19 lockdown.
“The council has cleared an area behind the houses beside Milperra Golf Course and we were hoping this might be an option for us.”
Mum Valerie said that from discussion with other parents, including Simon Moran who has also been driving the issue, it seems there is a lot of support from the community to establish a dedicated bike track.
She sees it as the perfect option for getting young people off the lounge or the computer and boosting physical and mental fitness in the great outdoors.
“We don’t have anything like this in the area for our children,” she said.
“On the block of land that’s been cleared near the golf course, there is actually an old bike track from a few years ago which the kids discovered and have built their own jump.
“It would be wonderful if it could remain in the community for that purpose.”
Gear up for own BMX track
ALONG with a growing number across Sydney and the rest of Australia, Milperra’s Dorian Grant is an avid mountain bike and BMX rider but to hit a proper BMX track, he needs a parent to drive him to either Barden Ridge or the Hills district.
