Game on for 117 local teams keen to hold court with start of netball season

IT’S game on for nearly 1,600 players, coaches and umpires from Bankstown City Netball Association’s (BCNA) 11 clubs after they enjoyed their 2021 winter season’s start at Deverall Park Courts on Saturday.

No matter how old you get, you always cherish those childhood memories of weekend mornings spent out on the netball court.
Nothing can eclipse that feeling of scoring an unbeatable goal, coming from behind to win an impossible match or simply seeing mum and dad cheer you on from the sidelines.
And BCNA president Nicole Oram says nothing has changed.
“Participation in sport is one of the most valuable experiences a child can have,” she said.
“It doesn’t matter if your child is an athletic prodigy or just wants to have some fun and make new friends, everyone has something to gain from playing.”
Accepting players aged from five to 65 years, BCNA had 117 teams enjoying their season debut on the court on Saturday.
Nicole says netball is an excellent source of life lessons and it’s where she made some of her closest friends.
“Whether it’s learning to work together as a team, learning to lead as a captain, or learning to cope with defeat, netball nurtures many positive qualities in young people and also offers health benefits, including reducing the risk of obesity and increasing bone strength, cardiovascular fitness, coordination and balance,” she said.
“New players are welcome to join and we always need coaches and umpires.”
