The program recognises the school leadership role of students and provides them with the opportunity to meet their elected representatives and to develop their knowledge of constitutional and parliamentary processes including the role of the Governor, Ministers and Members of Parliament. During the program students hear from Members and Parliamentary Officers, view proceedings from the public galleries and visit Government House.
Bankstown MP Jihad Dib’s message to the captains was that no matter where they came from or what faith they practised they could make a difference in our society.
“They are the change and they have to be the change,” he said.
East Hills MP Kylie Wilkinson told students that “whether it’s in the school community, on the sporting field, in a boardroom or in the Parliament, leadership is having the courage, respect and integrity to do what is right, work collaboratively with others and help people to achieve their goals”.
‘Future leaders’ shown ropes on Parliament tour
STATE MPs welcomed secondary school leaders to the Parliament of NSW last month to participate in the Secondary Student Leadership Program.
