Funding boost to renovate Ice Rink

CANTERBURY Olympic Ice Rink will receive more than $600,000 for a range of renovations and improvements that will see it “continue its 50-year history of providing affordable and high quality skating facilities”.

State MP for Canterbury, Sophie Cotsis, presented the cheque to a delighted Greg Gurr, Director and Chair of the Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink (pictured) and some of the sporting groups who call it home.
The money will be used for the installation of solar panels, refurbishment of bathrooms and new portable grandstands.
“With our facility ageing and being subject to increasing energy costs, the funds will allow significant infrastructure investment,” Mr Gurr said.
“This will ensure our ongoing viability and allow us to provide increased opportunities for participation and the holding of significant events and competitions.”
