With over five decades of experience assisting migrants among their many roles, Lakemba’s Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) is now offering a friendly port of call to women, launching its first Vietnamese Mother’s Group.
LMA group organiser Willow Nguyen is in the best position to assist, having been a new arrival herself 10 years ago.
“We are proud to be able to offer this service and had 22 women at our first meeting,” she said.
“The format will consist of an info session followed by an activity such as a sport, yoga, cooking or whatever the group is interested in.
“Some have never sent an email or tried to download a government App so we will be offering computer and technology support along with English language support classes.”
Willow says the program is on offer every Thursday, 10am-12pm, at the LMA offices at 71-75 Wangee Road and all are welcome to attend so long as they are Vietnamese and living in Canterbury Bankstown.
“It’s also a great opportunity to make friends as only a few knew each other at the first meeting and that way, increase your network and support base as well as learning new skills plus improving your English.”
