Free sport day for those with disability

SPORT and recreation can greatly enhance the lives of people in the community living with a disability, by improving physical health and mental well-being.

People with a disability, in fact, receive the same physical, mental and social benefits from taking part in sport and physical activity as those not having a disability.
As such, Freedom Solutions Australia – a charity helping those with disability lead more independent lives – is hosting a Free Community Sports Day for those with a disability who live or work in the Cumberland LGA.
Freedom’s Inclusive Sports Co ordinator Kyle Scott said the free multi-sport session would be on offer on Saturday, December 16, 12-3pm, at Billergia Indoor Sports Centre at Camellia.
The day will include goalball, for those with vision impaired, dance, blind cricket and more.
“It will be an open style session where participants can move between the different sports and try out everything to see what they enjoy,” Kyle said.
“We also hope participants will bring their carers and family members who will have the opportunity to learn about how to make more inclusive even a backyard game of cricket.
“The day will also be an opportunity to help remove barriers to sport as well as for participants to have fun and enjoy all the physical and mental benefits.”
Children and adults are welcome; just turn up on the day or to register ahead or for further info: trybooking.com/1139589 or call 9912 3400.
