History Week 2020 is part of the History Council of NSW’s annual, state-wide celebration and as part of the fun, residents will be invited to provide responses to this year’s theme, ‘History: What is it Good For?’ via video.
Other highlights include: ‘Coronavirus at the end of history’ livestream lecture, presented by Professor Stan Grant; and ‘Still Standing’ oral history. Inner West Aboriginal brothers Dennis and Tom Moffatt will entertain local youth from the Koori club with their life stories.
Online walking tours will also be on offer:
• Explore the industrial heritage of Carrington Road Marrickville, home to AH Peters (Kelloggs, Seelo Soap and Dairy Farmers), General Motors Rega Products and Civil Aviation, and Pye radio and TV factory;
• Discover the Cooks River’s habitats, biodiversity and waterways; and
• Hear about Ashfield’s People and Places – such as Quong and Margaret Tart and their five children, and the bustling multicultural hub which Ashfield is today.
