Free Father’s Day celebration feast with Bankstown Community Church

ARE you wondering how your limited cash is going to cover a Father’s Day celebration this year?

There’s a wonderful opportunity for struggling families or individuals to book in for a free Father’s Day lunch this Sunday, September 4, complete with a range of multicultural options and dessert, at Bankstown Community Church at 381 Hume Highway, Bankstown.
You must attend the Sunday service at 10.30am, which will be followed by the picnic feast on the lawn before small gift bags are handed out to all the dads.
Church event co ordinator Lily McAuley says they know that many families are doing it tough and they wanted to do something to take off the financial pressure but still ensure dads felt special on the day.
“It’s a great opportunity for families to come together and celebrate their dad, grandfather or dad role model without it costing anything,” she said.
Also operating a grocery bag distribution service each Saturday from 10am, Lily said that though the service – supported by Hands and Feet charity – was popular in the pandemic, it had now gone through the roof.
“Within five minutes of the doors opening, most of the 40 or so bags we pack are gone and we’re usually having to look for any goods we’ve got to make up other bags as we don’t like turning anyone away,” she said.
“It would be wonderful if the community could donate any spare non-perishables to help us meet demand, such as cans of veggies and soup or beans, rice, pasta and lentils; just drop them off on a Saturday morning from 8.30am.”
