NDIS participant with the council’s Lifestyle and Leisure Links Program, Graeme Castle, is looking forward to attending the Celebration Disco this Saturday, December 9, and the Festival of Ability Showcase on Friday, December 15.
Taking part in IDPWD events last year, Graeme is encouraging others with a disability to attend.
“The Festival of Ability will be a real eye-opener, there’s so much talent on show, and it’s an opportunity to get out and about and enjoy what’s on offer,” he said
“It may lead to making new friends as well as accessing any support or resources available.
“I’m really looking forward to letting my hair down and having a dance at the disco too.”
Mayor Lisa Lake said the council was committed to fostering an environment that values and supports individuals of all abilities.
“The council is committed to providing equal access to the facilities, programs, services and information without discrimination or barriers, as outlined in the Cumberland Disability Inclusion Action Plan,” she said.
“We want everyone to feel welcome, valued and that they belong, so I encourage everyone to join us in showing their support for IDPWD.”
IDPWD is a global celebration held annually on December 3, with this year’s theme ‘United in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for, with and by persons with disabilities’.
