Free course on offer to become a paid referee

ENJOYING a taste of the action that you’ll never get as a spectator, refereeing is a fun way to keep fit and stay involved – and you’ll even be paid for your troubles.

With the previous referee branch, BFR, now coming under the Bankstown District Amateur Football Association (BDAFA) umbrella, past and present players over the age of 13, are being invited to learn more about refereeing at a course on Sunday, February 20, 9am-3pm, with the venue to be confirmed upon registration.
“Bringing the referees under the BDAFA umbrella also allows for more targeted incentives and support,” BDAFA General Manager Leanne Millar said.
“The aim of this strategy is to reduce the operational burden on referees, allowing the referees to focus on what they enjoy best and supporting new and junior referees.”
There is no cost to become a referee in Bankstown in 2022.
“If you are new to refereeing in Bankstown you will also receive your kit free,” Millar said.
“Bankstown values our referees and we want to see the growth of refereeing in Bankstown.
“We are putting all our efforts into supporting and growing this area of community sport. Without referees we would not be able to run or enjoy the game of football. Referees are an integral part of our game.”
