Four roads rated ‘noisiest’ in NSW

FOUR roads in Cumberland are among the most annoying in the State, according to the latest survey.

Vaughan Street in Auburn, Rawson Road in Guildford, Gipps Road in Greystanes and parts of Cornelia Road in Toongabbie, were among the survey’s Top 50 roads with higher annoyance levels.
The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, which teamed up with Ambient Maps for the first-of-its-kind survey, said that aside from being annoying, road noise could also be bad for our health.
The new study mapped every road in Sydney – firstly analysing average noise exposure from 7am to 11pm – then analysing which roads produce higher than average peaks over that time, to identify the ‘annoying’ roads.
It said there needed to be far more awareness about the growing dangers of road noise.
Professor Jason Kovacic, Director and CEO of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, said: “There is increasing evidence that living close to a busy road, has a big impact on our heart health, and it’s not just linked to the pollution belted out by cars on the road.”
“Road noise can trigger our stress response, which can drive up blood pressure and that increases your chance of having a heart attack or stroke,” the professor said.
“It’s vital that Australians are more aware of the dangers and that we put this on the health agenda.”
