Police called in to assist the pub’s security at 8.30pm, were told the group had been ejected from the pub but were refusing to leave the area.
The men were allegedly given a move-on direction, and despite some members of the group attempting to make the others leave, two of the men allegedly became aggressive.
One man allegedly grabbed an officer from behind in a bear hug before other officers were able to restrain him, and as the group’s lift arrived and they attempted to get the man into the car, he allegedly approached an acting sergeant and punched him in the face.
Officers attempted to restrain the man when three of his associates allegedly resisted police and OC spray had to be deployed to subdue them.
Four men – aged 21, 23, 24, and 29 – were subsequently charged with 20 offences between them, including resist officer in execution of duty, excluded person fail to leave premises when required, and excluded person remain in vicinity of licensed premises.
The acting sergeant was treated at Westmead Hospital for facial injuries.
