If you’re looking for a fun, relaxing time to gather with friends and family in the lead up to Christmas, Lidcombe Bowling Club has a ‘Closing of the Green’ event coming up this Saturday, December 16, from 2pm until late.
Club manager Stuart Mercier said the green was closed for topsoiling for about six weeks every year.
“So we thought, why not take advantage of it being closed to bowlers – let’s have live music instead,” he said.
With $10 entry (free for children) plus $5 for the sausage sizzle, there will be four lives bands playing – the Russell Parkhouse Band (pictured), Jon Ayo, Jockey Fridge and David Lester’s The Rock Chronicles in which famed guitarist Frank Fender is playing.
Frank said everyone could look forward to a fantastic afternoon.
“We will be playing loads of Aussie favourites, all the hits from the 80s, 90s and more, just to get the festive, party vibe going ahead of Christmas,” he said.
“If you’re a live music fan, make sure you drop in and enjoy the fun.”
David said it was going to be an amazing celebration and they would be trying to talk Frank into playing ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ with his teeth.
“It’s really a sight to behold,” he said.
“As far as we know he’s the only other person on the planet, apart from the late Jimi Hendrix, who can do that; he is one of Australia’s best, if not the best, guitarists.”
