Swim coach arrest over sex offences

FORMER swim coach Dick Caine from Condell Park has been bailed after being charged with six counts of carnal knowledge by a teacher of a girl aged 10-17 and three counts of indecent assault.

The 76-year-old was arrested last Thursday morning at his Condell Park home following an investigation into alleged sexual abuse of teenage girls he was training in Sydney’s south more than 40 years ago.
Lawyer Bryan Wrench said Mr Caine would fight the charges.
“Police have charged an innocent man, a terminally ill man, for an offence that occurred 46 years ago. He is going to die and he’ll fight to the dying last breath to clear his name,” he said.
In January 2021, officers from Kings Cross Police Area Command received information about alleged multiple sexual and indecent assaults of a teenage girl at a swim school at Carss Park in the 1970s.
Kings Cross detectives subsequently established Strike Force Coco to investigate the matter.
During the course of the investigation, further information was received about additional alleged sexual abuse incidents of another teenage girl at the same swim school, also in the 1970s.
Police will allege in court that the man indecently and sexually assaulted two girls – when they were aged 15-16 – on a number of occasions in the mid-1970s while they were under his authority as a swimming coach.
