Former Cootes site plans move foward

PLANS to redevelop the former John Cootes site in Merrylands, are moving forward after Cumberland Council endorsed the finalisation of a Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) and Development Control Plan (DCP) for the site.

Bordered by Woodville Road, Lansdowne Street and Highland Road, the land to be rezoned covers about 2.84 hectares and could see up to 260 residential units plus retail and commercial floorspace on the site.
During a public exhibition period, the proponent made a submission asking for minor changes to the draft DCP, while a further three individual submissions raised concerns over traffic matters; design of new streets within the planning proposal site; and an increase in noise and disturbance, overcrowding and congestion.
A report to the council noted that the issues of concern had “been addressed substantially in the planning proposal and will be further considered during the development application stage”.
The VPA includes a 2,000sqm landscaped public park as well as dedication of one affordable housing unit per 33 dwellings which equates to about four two-bedroom units and four one-bedroom units.
