Flush out plan to open amenities on train line

RELIEF could be on the way for residents and commuters with a push for more public toilets along the train line.

Canterbury Bankstown Councillor Nadia Saleh has won support for her call for council to engage “with NSW Police and Transport for NSW on the future provision of public toilets along the T3 Bankstown Line within the LGA”.

Cr Saleh said existing public toilets near Punchbowl and Wiley Park Stations have been closed for more than 10 years for a number of reasons, including their age and security issues.

“It’s always important to me for our residents to have access to public amenities but it cannot come at the expense of their safety,” she said.

“So I have asked for a review of the situation and also requested it be considered as part of the development of the new Master Plan for Wiley Park.”

Mother of five, Fadile Ammouri agrees there is a desperate need for a public toilet in Punchbowl, especially for parents with young children and the elderly, but says they need to be safe.

“You could close the toilet at night, at 6pm or something, but we need toilets during the day,” she said.
