Just after 12.30pm, police attempted to stop a Toyota Hiace after it was allegedly driven through a red light on Stacey Street.
It’s alleged the vehicle failed to stop and instead was driven into a nearby shopping centre car park. Police followed him and when the officers got out of their car to approach the man, it’s alleged he continued driving, before hitting a parked car.
The man then allegedly drove at the officers, who managed to jump out of the way, before the car then hit six more parked cars before stopping.
Police approached the vehicle and removed the driver, however, he allegedly assaulted them while he was being arrested.
Further police arrived and once he was detained, police searched the man and allegedly located a small amount of cannabis.
The 20-year-old Greenacre man was charged with multiple offences, including drive in manner dangerous; resist arrest; assault police; drive whilst suspended; and possess prohibited drug.
Destroys luxury car in burnout
A LUXURY car was destroyed by fire when the driver allegedly tried to perform a burnout at Chester Hill.
Emergency services were called to Marks Street about 12.30pm on Sunday, January 17, after a Mercedes Benz AMG C63S coupe was reported to be on fire. Despite efforts by Fire and Rescue NSW, the vehicle was destroyed.
Bankstown Police were told by the driver the vehicle had caught fire while being driven down the road. The driver and two male passengers escaped without injury.
Following further inquiries, which included sourcing video footage of an alleged attempted burnout, the 25-year-old owner/driver was issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving.
Police said the car was worth more than $100,000.
