Flavour up world with fun food tour

WANT to broaden your horizons and get a taste of the world without leaving home?

You can lean about the rich cultures of Auburn while sampling some of the most delicious food you have ever tried on a Flavours of Auburn Walking Food Tour.
With the next Turkish tour on this Saturday, August 17, 11am-2pm, you can stroll along the streets with a local tour guide and experience the sounds of a hundred different mother tongues chatting in the coffee shops which line the footpath.

You’ll smell the scent of charcoal grills, rose-water Turkish delights, dried lemons and Middle Eastern spices.
Taste Fevzi’s sweet home-marinated olives, crisp sesame-sprinkled Afghan bread, falafel which melts in your mouth and golden pastries dripping with syrup.

With a cultural and religious introduction, you’ll also journey to the famous Auburn mosque, visit a Middle Eastern gift shop, grocery store and meet some of Auburn’s small business owners before finishing with food samplings and lunch at a restaurant.
Tour guide Ralph says the food tours are a fantastic way to dispel any negative myths about Auburn and gain a better insight into an ancient civilisation.
“”The tours are enriching, educational, extremely affordable and easy to get to as the group meets at Auburn Station,” he said.
“There are also cooking classes on offer where community cooks will welcome you into their kitchen, and teach you how to make delicious dishes from Ethiopia, Iran, Southern China, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.”
The tours cost $70 for the general public, $50 for Cumberland residents and $45 for concession/students.
Flavours of Auburn runs all year long and offers a range of culinary experiences from around the world.
