Improvements will include new seating with shelter, rubbish bins, public drinking water station and rubber soft fall, after a call for action from Councillor Karl Saleh OAM.
Cr Saleh said he has seen “a crying need for an accelerated upgrade to meet the demands and expectations of the surrounding community”.
“You only have to wander down to the reserve to see the many mums and dads and their children using the facility,” he said.
“For many it is their piece of paradise as they live in nearby apartments with no green space or backyards. There are also the countless school kids who pop in on their way home.”
Cr Saleh said the improved space would also encourage more locals the opportunity to come and enjoy the reserve.
“When backyards are getting smaller, we need to enhance and upgrade our local parks and reserves so local families can used them in a comfortable and friendly way,” he said.
Fix up ‘piece of paradise’
FOR many residents, it’s their “piece of paradise” and now, Hampden Road Reserve, Lakemba, will be even more enjoyable with its upgrade to be fast-tracked.
