First orchid exhibition ‘a blooming success’

OVER 1,500 enthusiasts helped to ensure a large range of vendors sold out at the first Orchids Central exhibition at Club Condell Park earlier this month.

One of the organiser’s Kevin Le said his group was thrilled with the turnout which supported the expected trend that more younger people were falling in love with orchid cultivation.
“It used to be an older person’s hobby, growing orchids, but we are finding more and more of the younger generation who can’t afford the big backyards, are now taking to growing them inside and on balconies,” he said.
“Club Condell Park was definitely a sight to behold that weekend, with the amount of bloom that greeted every visitor, it was spectacular.”
He said five raffles were drawn and attendees could not get enough of the demonstrations and getting advice from the experts.
“Just like me, there are a lot of people now keen to learn about orchid growing and once they have a bit of success, it feels magical and they stick with it,” he said.
“There was just so much interest that we are now planning our second exhibition.”
