First Muslim female boxer

TINA Rahimi (pictured) has her sights set on becoming Australia’s first Muslim female boxer to win gold at the Commonwealth Games.

The Bass Hill resident is one of eight making their debut in an 11-strong Australian boxing team for the Games, and hopes to create a golden legacy in the 57kg division.
The 26-year-old from Bass Hill in Sydney, who took up the sport to improve her fitness, has become an important role model in the Muslim community, and believes she is capable of winning gold in Birmingham.
“I know that I have the potential and capability to get the gold, so I have really dedicated myself to the sport,” Rahimi said.
She uses a social media account titled ‘Boxing with Tina’ to encourage women to embrace the fitness and social benefits that boxing has to offer.
“I am so passionate about teaching these ladies as well. It’s been amazing to help the people in my community who want to train and learn how to box,” she said.
She has only recently returned from the Women’s World Championships in Turkey, where she lost her first international fight in a close split decision against a much stronger and more experienced boxer.
After that match she said the loss didn’t define her and her potential.
“I know what I’m capable of and as much as I’m upset, I know for a fact that I will come back stronger and better than ever,” she said.
Australia will send 425 athletes to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games from July 28 to August 8.
