THE Bankstown Sports Bulldogs capped a solid season on Saturday when its Second and Fourth Grade sides qualified for the finals starting next weekend.
At Bankstown Oval, the Daniel Solway-led first-grade team had an emphatic victory despite not making the finals.
The Bulldogs pacemen showed their grit and skill, with Ryan Felsch (3 for 49) and Brad Simpson (3 for 30) decimating the Rooster’s line-up, and the visitors only adding 77 runs but losing eight wickets in the process – five of those wickets dropping on 147 as the innings collapsed.
In reply, the Dogs’ batsmen made light work of the chase and attained 194 runs, losing just three wickets. Solway provided the backbone of the innings with a steady 52 not out, Zeeshaan Ahmed with 54 off just 50 balls, and Niran Wijewardene with a brilliant 63 off 47 balls that tormented the Roosters’ bowlers.
The win helped the Dogs achieve seventh place in the overall Club Championship – their highest ranking for some years and shows how strong the club’s young men are and points to an exciting future.
