Final week of short sweet theatre bites

THEATRE lovers can now book for the final instalment of standout, original plays in the Short+Sweet Festival which offers tasty, 10-minute bites including ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ by Xeno Nemos and starring Canterbury actor Dominic Di Paolo.

Harry and Laura are a dysfunctional couple, and their relationship has come to a head, fittingly next to a flushing toilet.
In their bathroom mirror, the true smoke clears from their eyes, and the state of their relationship reveals itself. Resentment and twisted intentions come to light. Their mirror image unveils their true intentions, subconscious feelings and inner reflections about themselves and their relationship – and the truth is ugly.
Dominic says that although the theme of the play is serious, a lot of comedy can come from dark moments.
“We are having so much fun rehearsing and it does have a few faraway ideas but at its core, is extremely relatable,” he said.
“A lot of people have been in relationships that they shouldn’t have but this one will definitely keep you guessing.
“Everyone should make an effort to come along, it’s going to be a fantastic night that’s thought-provoking but with a lot of laughs.”
The finals week also puts the spotlight on wine, trans love, caring, pets, actors, Santa, hangovers, diagnoses and unusual relationships.
It’s on offer at the new Turner Hall Theatre in Ultimo from Thursday, April 18, to Sunday, April 21, from 6.30pm.
