Tim Hodge added two gold medals to his trophy cabinet, while Alex Quach added a gold and bronze to his and Ricky Betar took home two silver and a bronze.
Sixteen swimmers took part in the event, which coach Clinton Camilleri said marked an important milestone in their run into the Olympic/Paralympic year.
“After a heavily effected 2020 Covid year, the team has prepared well and raced extremely well for this point of the preparation which positions us well leading into the April National titles followed by Australian team selection trials in Junes,” he said.
A week earlier, Auburn also sent a team of five to Australian Open Water Championships, with Bianca Walton bringing home silver in the Girls’ 7.5km event and bronze in the 5km.
Camilleri said the 17-year-old has also just been named in the junior Australian open water team to compete in the Seychelles in August.
“This result is a reflection of Bianca’s tenacity and dedication to distance swimming. Bianca was the only Athlete from NSW in an eight-athlete team,” he said.
Fifth in State thrill for swim club best
FINISHING fifth on the medal table at this month’s NSW State Open Championships in their first major event of the 2021 calendar, is a good sign for the Auburn Swimming Club.
