Faster than speeding bullets

BOUNCING back from a disappointing loss to Illawarra on Thursday, the Kings proved they are still contenders for the NBL season crown with an impressive 119-108 win over the Brisbane Bullets on Saturday night.

The Hawks restricted Sydney to just eight points in the third quarter in Thursday’s 89-69 loss but on Saturday, it was a 38-point third quarter by the Kings, the most points scored by any team in a quarter in NBL21, which helped seal victory for them.
Casper Ware – who finished the game with 25 points – started the turnaround against the Bullets with a pair of triples before scoring 10 points in the vital quarter.
Ware had plenty of help, with Tom Vodanovich coming off the bench to nail three consecutive three-point bombs to end the game with 13 points, while Shaun Bruce had seven of his 11 points in the frame and Jordan Hunter scored 13.
Making 21 points of his own, Jarell Martin also showed the quickness and skill he’s become so known for, while Craig Moller made 15 in what was arguably his best game for the club, particularly after both Martin and Hunter fouled out and the game was on the line.
The win in their final match of the inaugural NBL Cup tournament, was enough to kill Brisbane’s hopes of prize money and left the Kings in fifth place overall.
The Kings will now host two home games at Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney Olympic Park for Round 10 of the regular season, taking on Melbourne United on Friday, March 19, before going up against the Cairns Taipans on Sunday, March 21.
