Faster internet speed as fibre access gets boost

RESIDENTS and businesses in parts of Canterbury and Earlwood will be better connected to the internet with many now eligible to switch their copper NBN connection to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).

The upgrades will allow for faster speeds which are increasingly important in a digital society and economy.
Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland, says the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that Australians get the full benefit of NBN’s potential by enabling as many NBN lines to access full fibre connections as possible.
“Expanding fibre access will ensure Australians are at the forefront of digital connectivity and will help bridge the digital divide,” she said.
Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations and Federal MP for Watson, Tony Burke, said fibre meant a faster, more reliable internet connection for businesses and families.
“We’ve always said that fibre to the premises was a far better option for families and businesses and I’m really pleased we’re able to roll this out to parts of Canterbury,” he said.
Neighbouring Federal MP for Barton, Linda Burney, also welcomed the opportunity for many of her constituents to make the switch to “faster internet speeds so that they can fully engage with the online world”.
