Fashioning way to a better future

TALENTED Jordanian-trained fashion designer Gina Barjeel is on a mission to help migrant women achieve their dreams of independence by offering free sessions to teach the secrets of the sustainable, fashion industry as well as tips to start their own business.

Presented along with Cultural Diversity Network Inc and supported by Cumberland Council, the ‘Her Business’ sessions are on offer at Auburn Centre for Community on Saturdays, 10am-1pm, until April 2.
Participants will learn how to enhance their fashion and sewing techniques, creating beautiful clothing from sustainable sources with a view to employment or opening a business in the industry with social media marketing support.
Winning a Multicultural Business Connect Award in 2019 was a proud moment for Gina who had only migrated to Australia from the year before.
“Apart from being a fashion designer and donating 10 per cent of all of my sales to sustainable works, a huge part of my brand is upskilling migrant women and bringing them on board or helping them find work with other manufacturers,” she said.
You can order pieces from her latest collection at ginabarjeel.com.au or if you want to register for the Saturday sessions, with onsite childcare and morning tea and lunch provided, call her on 0407 723 453.
