Fascinating free talks on offer for ‘Science Week’

LEARN about blood, e-cigarettes and language development with free talks as Cumberland’s libraries celebrate science and technology as part of Science Week.

Head to Merrylands Library and join scientists Dr Alison Gould and Dr Rena Hirani, from Australian Red Cross Blood Service, for a fascinating discussion about blood on Wednesday, August 14, from 11am to 12pm.
From 6pm to 7pm, Merrylands will also host a talk by Titia Benders, a lecturer of linguistics at Macquarie University who analyses children’s speech to gain insight in language development in the infant, toddler and preschool years.
At Auburn Library, learn to understand how friends, family, advertising and social media influence people’s perceptions and the use of e-cigarettes with Dr Samia Amin on Thursday, August 15, from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Dr Amin is a medical doctor who spent 17 years working in Bangladesh and Malaysia before joining the Centre for Health Informatics at Macquarie University to undertake a PhD.
Her research looks into social media platforms and the difficulties of separating fact from fiction online, especially relating to health.
