Fantastic ‘hat-trick’ helps to seal victory

UP-and-coming star Emily Lawler scored a stunning hat-trick, propelling Bankstown Sports First Grade to a new year win over Northern District at the weekend.

Bankstown won the toss and elected to bat; after losing an early wicket, their two form batters in Erin Burns (49) and Jade Errington (26) built a great partnership on the challenging pitch.
Jannatul Sumona (16) and Lawler (14) added some valuable runs to take Bankstown to 5/117 off the allocated overs.
After Bankstown’s batting innings, 117 seemed quite respectable.
All bowlers did exactly as asked and bowled full and straight to restrict the runs.
Wickets were hard to come by until Jannatul Sumona broke through in the 13th over to have Norther District 1/64 which then allowed the star of the bowling innings, Lawler, to work her magic.
In the 19th over, with the score on 91, Northern District needed to find some boundaries and were looking to play shots.
Lawler stuck to her plans and looked dangerous – the first wicket was caught at mid off by first grade debutant Maeve Martin, next ball was fast and straight-bowled out.
Lawler left her best ball for the hat-trick, hitting the batter on the full on the back pad before the whole team went up for the appeal to be given which resulted in LBW.
A great showcase of fast bowling saw Lawler end with 3/19 off her 4 overs.
Northern District’s innings ended on 5/96 off their 20 overs handing Bankstown Sports a 21-run win.
