Shaping up to be a great day of fun and fitness, the Georges River Festival of the Feet will be held on Sunday, July 9, at Lake Gillawarna, Georges Hall.
It offers 3km, 7km, 14km or 21.1km runs, with all courses off-road and winding their way along Georges River and around Lake Gillawarna.
The event attracts more than 600 entrants of all ages, from serious competitors to fun runners, walkers and families.
Race director and spokesperson for Western Districts Joggers and Harriers, Sue Reynolds, says their group comprises runners and walkers of all abilities who have come together to make their lives happy and healthier. “Lake Gillawarna is picturesque and very safe, especially for children, as we have race marshalls on the course who keep an eye on everything,” she said.
“This year, we’ll have a canteen, coffee truck, chorizo truck and more as well as a podiatrist, physiotherapist and Fitbit stall to get the latest advice.
“It’s also for a wonderful cause as this year funds raised will go to support not-for-profit charities including Cancer Foundation, Angelflight, Bankstown East Hills Handicapped Association and the Recreation Sports and Aquatic Club (RSAC), supporting people with disability.”
Everyone who finishes the race will receive a medal; registrations are invited at westiesjoggers.com.
