Family day to mark Turkiye’s centenary

PERFORMANCES by the award-winning Maarif Folk Dance Group will be among the many highlights when the Turkish Welfare Association hosts the celebration of the Centenary of the Republic of Turkiye in Lidcombe later this month.

A free day full of traditional and contemporary cultural activities, it will showcase Turkish music, dance, entertainment and a variety of delicious cuisines, on Sunday, October 29, noon-9pm, at Wyatt Park, Lidcombe.
Hosted by Fat Pizza actor and comedian Tahir Bilgic, the main stage program will include DJ Ilka, the Austolian Dance Group, NIDA Rock and Mehter Takimi (Ottoman Military Band).
There will also be plenty of children’s activities including a rockwall with a bungee trampoline, teacup, mini pirate ship, chair-o-lane, dodgem cars and an kidz inflatable gym.
Along with free face painting, pop-up market stalls, laser tag, water roller, Scalextric slot cars and games theatre will also feature.
A Turkish Welfare Association spokesperson said it would be a wonderful celebration that would have something for all of the family.
“There will be many cultural highlights and it’s a great opportunity for connection and to have some fun; everyone’s invited,” she said.
