With National Family Business Day last week (September 19) encouraging residents to shop local, Peter said working with family meant that someone always had your back.
“My father Angelo started the business about 19 years ago and I’ve been here for 13 years but really grew up in the business,” he said.
“My mother Marlene’s brothers work here too, Frank Kapos and Michael Bounazos, plus my Aunty Paula and my cousins Jordan and Mary.”
John and Tara Tsingolis’ three sons Nathaniel, 6, Alexander, 4 and Steven, 2, are also growing up in the family business at Mr Splash Plumbing.
Tara, who runs the office, manages the staff and books the jobs, said she and her husband occasionally butted heads but she wouldn’t change a thing.
“Our sons all want to be the boss of the business so it’s going to be interesting when they grow up,” she added with a laugh.
The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman Kate Carnell says family businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and key contributors to the local economy.
“National Family Business Day is a time to recognise the significant role these businesses play, accounting for up to 70 per cent of Australian businesses and employing around half of the country’s workforce,” she said.
“I urge people to show support for the family business in your community and buy local.”
