Hosted by the Western Districts Joggers and Harriers and returning after a three-year hiatus, club president and race director Joan Eisenhuth says it’s shaping up to be a great day. “With a strong focus on fun and families, the Festival of the Feet welcomes runners of all ages and abilities to enjoy the traffic-free pathways along Georges River and around Lake Gillawarna,” she said.
“The event attracts participants of all ages, from tiny babes in prams to fabulously fit runners in their 70s and 80s, as well as large family groups, school and corporate teams.
“As in previous years, there are 3km, 7km, 14km or 21.1km runs and a great carnival atmosphere including stalls, a sausage sizzle and refreshments plus every participant will receive a medal.”
One of Sydney’s oldest running clubs, Eisenhuth said members of ‘Westies Joggers’ have been running together since the 1960s.
“We are a friendly, family-orientated club. We meet on Saturdays to run around the lake, river and bush settings at Lake Gillawarna,” she said.
“We are very grateful for the generous support of local businesses, including Unity Bank, Bankstown Sports and The Foot General.”
Race entry fees ($20-$55) charged for the festival on Sunday, September 4, 7am-12pm, will go to support Bankstown East Hills Handicapped Association (BEHHA), Angelflight, Recreation Sports and Aquatics Club (RSAC) and the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.
Entries are open now at westiesjoggers.com and will close online at 3pm on September 3 but can still be made on the day in person 30 minutes before the race starts.
