YOUNGSTERS and their families have been turning out in droves to explore the new adventure playground and bike track at Lidcombe.
Cumberland Mayor Lisa Lake said the revitalised Phillips Park offers a dynamic playspace with a walking loop to help promote physical activity and healthy living, while the enhanced social spaces provide areas for community gatherings, youth activities and sports events
“I know it will become a favourite destination for play, social gatherings and celebration,” she said.
The new play space at Phillips Park, along Martin Street, which includes a variety of play equipment, social spaces, shade to mitigate heat and UV exposure, accessibility for both users and caregivers, a learn to ride loop for children using smaller bicycles and scooters, a walking loop featuring a shared concrete path and a 1.2m wide footpath, was jointly funded by the council and the Federal Government, and opened earlier this month by Mayor Lake and Federal MP for Reid, Sally Sitou.
Ms Sitou said by combining play, nature, sports and accessibility improvements, the upgrade would transform the park into a vibrant community hub for recreation and learning.
“I’ve spoken to so many local families while out door-knocking or holding community drop-ins, and I know how important it is to get the most out of Lidcombe’s green space,” she said.
