Families enjoy day to lift autism awareness

MORE than 500 people turned out for an inaugural Autism Awareness Fun Day hosted by Kids Clinic Bankstown and the Embrace Kids Foundation.

Kids Clinic manager Abi Issa said the event was aimed at acknowledging and empowering parents, carers and families who provide round-the-clock care for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other special needs.
“It was also a day to promote social acceptance, kindness and community support,” she said.
Health specialists were on site to assist with information and the event featured games, toys, animals and activities catering for children with special needs, with special appearance from members of the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs team.
Ms Issa also thanked Fire and Rescue NSW for their amazing display, which she said gave the children an opportunity to play in a safe environment.
