Revesby mum Sajida Batool and her daughters Eshaal and Rameen, aged 10 and 8, joined Go4Fun in Term Two and continue to enjoy the benefits of the program which helps families lead a healthy lifestyle through games and activities.
Health professionals deliver the Go4Fun program to children aged 7 to 13 who are above a healthy weight, and their families, across the region.
“Eshaal and Rameen like playing football, soccer and handball. We now read food labels, have reduced our sugar and salt intake and use wholewheat flour,’’ Mrs Batool said.
“I’ve been using the Go4Fun recipes and making healthy muffins. We will have these skills for life.’’
More than 13,000 families have joined Go4Fun since the program started 11 years ago.
South Western Sydney Local Health District’s Karen Wardle said children attend a session with a parent or carer once a week and learn about healthy eating.
“They also take part in activities like supermarket visits to help make healthy choices when shopping,’’ Ms Wardle said.
The program, which begins in Term Four on October 10, includes a new Aboriginal Go4Fun at Revesby Uniting Church on Wednesdays from 3.30-5.30pm.
