Expo guiding hundreds on journey to job

HUNDREDS of people turned at the annual Cumberland Jobs and Youth Expo to discover the many job prospects, educational programs and vocational training options available in the area.

Cumberland Mayor Lisa Lake said that last week’s expo aimed to provide employment opportunities and address the unique challenges faced by residents and young people in today’s competitive job market.
“We know that securing employment can be challenging, with the average unemployment rate in Cumberland higher when compared to the national average,” she said.
“There are many factors that contribute to these employment figures, including language barriers and knowledge about employment opportunities.”
But she hoped the expo inspired those who attended and empowered them to “trade up to a better career”.
Visiting the expo with Councillor Mohamad Hussein, Cr Sabrin Farooqui said it was a great success and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive from organisations and participants.
“It provided a valuable opportunity for all our young people and jobseekers to connect with local employers and service providers,” she said.
