Expert advice to help ease pressures of ‘cost of living’

DO you feel like you are paying more than expected with bills? Is the cost of living pressure becoming increasingly heavy for you? Or are you confused about a fine and can’t get an explanation?

You are not alone. But help will be available at the Cost of Living – Bring Your Bills Forum in Lakemba on next Thursday (February 9).
State MP for Canterbury, Sophie Cotsis, says the cost of living is affecting families across the State and her own community survey found it to be among the top three most important issues for residents in the Canterbury electorate.
She has joined State MP Jihad Dib, in conjunction with the Energy and Water Ombudsman, to host a community forum which will include representation from Government and not-for-profit organisations to help locals find discounts and rebates on their everyday bills.
Ms Cotsis says residents will have an opportunity to have face-to-face interaction with service representatives, to discuss issues and concerns rather than be pressured to go online for answers and information.
“Cost of living pressures are increasing day by day. Residents from my local community are struggling to afford fresh fruit and vegetables and are resorting to cutting meals or sourcing cheaper but unhealthy meal alternatives,” Ms Cotsis said.
Mr Dib said whether it’s soaring electricity or gas prices, groceries or tolls, families were doing it tougher than ever before.
“This forum is about making sure people know what is available to them during these difficult times,” he said.
“Every single day people visit my office asking for help as they struggle to pay the most necessary of bills,” he said.
The forum will be held at Uniting Church Hall, Lakemba, on Thursday, February 9, 1-5pm.
