Expect bumper crowds to honour brave

EXPECTING to be blessed with fine weather for this year’s Anzac Day tributes, Bankstown RSL Sub-branch president Terry Corcoran said they were hoping for a bumper crowd to help commemorate our brave fallen in style.

“We’re very excited and visiting schools in the lead up to Anzac Day for a bit of a history lesson to explain to students what it’s all about,” he said.
“Along with everyone else, we’ll be praying for a sunny Anzac Day and a great attendance at the march.”
Canterbury Bankstown Anzac Day services will be held at:
• Bankstown War Memorial service at Courthouse Reserve on Sunday, April 21, at 10.30am with a ticketed lunch to follow at Bankstown RSL; and a second service at Courthouse Reserve on Thursday, April 25, at 7.30am with the Riverwood Airforce Cadets in attendance and a ticketed breakfast to follow at Bankstown RSL.
• Padstow War Memorial (next to station) service on Sunday, April 21, from 11am, followed by a march to Padstow RSL for light refreshments; and a dawn service at the war memorial on Thursday, April 25, at 6am with a breakfast at the RSL to follow and Two Up from 12noon including $5 beer, wine and spirit specials until 4pm.
• Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL service outside the club at Bert Crook Memorial with seating, drummers, pipers and student wreath-laying at 5.30am with breakfast to follow at the club and Two Up in the afternoon.
• Campsie service at Anzac Mall on Thursday, April 25, at 6.45am with a ticketed breakfast to follow at Campsie RSL.
• Chester Hill RSL Cenotaph (meet on Leicester Street near Chester Square) on Thursday, April 25, with a march from 6.30am and the service from 6.45am followed by a ticketed breakfast at the club.
• Panania Diggers RSL march from the club to Edward Reserve Cenotaph (next to station) for a short service accompanied by a marching band on Sunday, April 21, at 1.45pm followed by refreshments at the club; and a dawn service at the cenotaph on Thursday, April 25, at 4.30am with breakfast and entertainment to follow at the club for a gold coin donation. There will Two Up from 9am-12noon, afternoon entertainment, $5 schooners from 2-4pm and a complimentary sausage sizzle at 3pm.
