These include Beverly Hills Girls High, Broderick Gillawarna, Campsie Public, Canterbury Girls High, East Hills Girls Technology High, George Bass School, Menai High, Padstow Heights Public, Padstow Park Public, Picnic Point High and Wangee Park Public schools.
With the theme ‘Creating the Magic’, the show will feature a 2,100-voice choir; 2,200 dancers; a 100-piece symphony orchestra; 45 featured artists plus more than 250 students involved in signing choirs, stage bands, VET entertainment crew and specialist ensembles.
Padstow Park Public music teacher Kay Taylor said the maximum number of students a school could apply to be in the ‘Spec’ was 24 and they filled those places very quickly.
“We had just finished performing in the NSW Public Schools State Music Festival at the Opera House last week and two days later had to roll up at the first rehearsal of the ‘Spec’ at Qudos,” she said.
“It’s such an exciting time for our students, they are all passionate singers and have had to learn 21 songs as well as being part of the 1,000-voice choir in the feature song, Sogno di Volari (The Dream of Flight), by Christoper Tin.
“It’s an amazing experience for them, one I’m sure they will never forget.”
Canterbury Girls High student Isabelle Epps said: “I am very honoured for the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful show. It’s an incredible learning experience and opens our eyes to the immense opportunities that will become available after school.”
Tickets for the shows on Friday and Saturday, November 25 and 26: Platinum, Adults $60, concession $50, Family Pass (two adults, two children) $186; Gold, Adults $46, Concession $36, Family Pass $131.
