Events to celebrate women

SHOWCASING the rights of women, International Women’s Day 2021 on March 8 will kick off a week of celebrations in Canterbury Bankstown, with this year’s theme ‘Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a Covid-19 World’.

Women will be able to attend a range of events starting with a free online event ‘Choose to Challenge Sexism and Ageism’ hosted by Bankstown Wellness – Older Women’s Network NSW (OWN) on Monday, March 8, 10.30-11.45am.
What does it mean to be an older woman today? What’s the secret to ageing well?
These questions and more will be discussed at the event which features ‘Feisty, Fabulous & 50+’ author Julie Ankers.

Later that day, March 8, 6-8.30pm, Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce is hosting the CBCC Women in Leadership event at Bankstown Sports.
Including a sit-down meal, tickets cost $35 for members and $50 for non-members and are available from eventbrite.com.au.
Next up on Tuesday, March 9, 10am-12pm, an International Women’s Day Variety Concert is on offer at Bryan Brown Theatre with an Aboriginal Welcome, cultural performances, refreshments, child-minding and a Covid update with Dr Kerry Chant.

Then on Friday, March 12, 9am-2pm, We are the Mainstream presents ‘Girls’ Edit’ at Bankstown Arts Centre.
Up to 100 First Nations, Gender Diverse and Girls of Colour are invited to come together to elevate and celebrate being a black or brown young woman.

Winding up the week’s celebrations, on Sunday, March 14, 9am-5.30pm, a symposium ‘Aint I A Woman’ is on offer at Bankstown Arts Centre.
Designed by and for women of colour, it aims to build solidarity and explore challenges unique to their communities.
