Inspired by the gypsy culture of Andalusia and referred to as the soul of Spain, flamenco dancing evokes a passion and energy so unique that it continues to stand out as one of the most exciting art forms to witness today.
Born in Sydney and taking up the flamenco at age nine before moving to Spain to pursue her love of the dance, Pepa has performed all over the world and is excited to introduce new students and audiences to the historic dance form.
“Though my language in dance is traditional, my path is in the broader context of contemporary flamenco dance making, exploring sound, theatre and setting,” she said.
“I’m excited for this performance as it has been a hard last year without performances.
“This makes it so much more special to present and direct this vibrant, new flamenco ensemble showcasing local emerging artists accompanied by Australia’s finest musicians.
“We are very much looking forward to giving our all on stage.”
Supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW, Dance Maker’s collective, Compania Pepa Molina and Pepa Molina Flamenco Dance Academy, the performance is on offer at ARA Darling Quarter Theatre on Sunday, April 25, from 5.30pm; tickets, $42.90, via eventbrite.com.au.
