Or what about getting up close and personal with a talking clown or jumping spider?
Originating with the ancient Celts, the Halloween tradition began with people lighting bonfires and dressing up to ward off ghosts.
Enjoying a huge revival in the last few decades thanks to American pop culture, Halloween is a chance for the young and the young at heart to dress in their spooky best and have fun trick or treating.
But you don’t have to go from door to door, with Padstow’s Renai Warner for the last couple of years decorating her home with a range of fun yet scary Halloween props and offering bags of goodies to children.
This year, her event will double as a fundraiser for Foodbank NSW/ACT and as such, she is asking visitors to leave a gold coin donation.
“We always have a lot of fun and organise a large display of interesting props, with areas sectioned off so you can have your photo taken with one of our ‘characters’,” she said.
“There will be lolly or toy (if child has dietary limitations) bags for every child and plenty of eerie sound effects to create the true Halloween mood,
“A lot of people are doing it tough and Foodbank does such an amazing job so we thought we would try to help by raising some funds this year; everyone is welcome, it’s going to be a special time for kids.”
The event will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 4-8.30pm, at 79 Virginius Street, Padstow.
