The nine-week course for residents and newly arrived migrants started last month and is being run under a partnership between Cumberland City Council and the Career Pathways and Employability Skills Section at TAFE NSW Liverpool and head teacher Michelle Morrison says it even helps families at home.
“Students often say that learning English has helped them understand their children’s homework and read books, which means they can help them learn,” she said.
As well as helping improve English language skills, Mayor Steve Christou says the classes are designed to help people to settle into our community.
“Students have a great opportunity to build their skills in speaking, writing, reading and listening” he said.
“Besides making life in Australia a little easier, the course provides a pathway to future training and employment opportunities in TAFE NSW.”
